From 12 to 14 June 2026, the IMMUPARKNET community gathered in the historic city of Coimbra, Portugal, for the Final Annual Conference of COST Action CA21117 – IMMUPARKNET, hosted by Dr. Frederico Pereira at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. The event brought together researchers, clinicians, early-career investigators, stakeholders, and patient representatives from across Europe and beyond to discuss the latest advances in the field of Parkinson’s disease and neuroimmunology.
Over three days, participants explored cutting-edge topics ranging from immune mechanisms and neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease to the gut-brain axis, biomarkers, stem cell models, artificial intelligence, extracellular vesicles, and innovative therapeutic strategies. The scientific programme featured internationally renowned invited speakers, selected oral communications, poster sessions, and dedicated stakeholder presentations, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and new collaborative opportunities.
A key highlight of the meeting was the opportunity to showcase the achievements of the COST Action and the collaborative efforts developed through its Working Groups. The conference also provided an important platform for early-career researchers to present their work and engage with leading experts in the field.
Beyond the scientific programme, the conference strengthened the IMMUPARKNET network through social and cultural activities, reflecting the Action’s commitment to fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of a vibrant international research community.
As IMMUPARKNET reaches the conclusion of its COST Action, the Final Annual Conference marked not only the celebration of the network’s accomplishments but also the beginning of new collaborations and future initiatives aimed at advancing our understanding of the complex interactions between the immune system and Parkinson’s disease.
A sincere thank you to the Local Organising Committee, all speakers, participants, stakeholders, and contributors for making the IMMUPARKNET Final Annual Conference 2026 a great success. We look forward to building on the strong scientific and collaborative legacy created by this network.
“Together, IMMUPARKNET continues to strengthen the international community working to unravel the immune mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease and translate scientific discoveries into better outcomes for patients.”
