Seville, 9–10 April 2026
The second edition of the IMMUPARKNET Training School was held at the Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla (IBiS) in Seville, Spain, focusing on immune profiling in Parkinson’s disease and the design of observational clinical studies.
The event was hosted by Prof. Pablo Mir and Dr. Laura Muñoz, bringing together clinicians, neurologists, and translational researchers with the shared goal of strengthening methodological skills for investigating the role of the immune system in Parkinson’s disease.
A multidisciplinary training experience
The main objective of the Training School was to equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools needed to design and conduct robust observational studies exploring immune mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease.
Key topics included:
- inclusion and exclusion criteria for study participants
- study design (cross-sectional vs. longitudinal approaches)
- clinical phenotyping and patient stratification
- biological samples and immune biomarkers
- neuroimaging and markers of neuroinflammation
The program strongly promoted an interdisciplinary approach, fully aligned with the goals of the IMMUPARKNET COST Action CA21117, which also supported travel and per diem reimbursement for selected participants.
A collaborative learning environment
Flash presentations and hands-on methodological discussions allowed participants to refine their study designs and foster new international collaborations within the IMMUPARKNET network.
The IMMUPARKNET Training School 2 provided an intensive and highly collaborative learning experience at the intersection of neurology, immunology, and translational research.
It reinforced the importance of standardized and well-designed observational studies to better understand immune mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease.
